Can you imagine watching Bernie Madoff arrested while knowing you invested your thirty years’ life savings trusting this man? There she was alone at home in New York while her husband was in frigid Antarctica. Too far away from the only hug that mattered at that moment.
In her interview on Super Soul Sunday, New York Times bestselling author, Geneen Roth told Oprah she sobbed alone in her heavily mortgaged home for two days. They had lost everything!
Thanks to the encouragement of her dear friend, she spent the next three days looking at what was right in her life. First, she recognized she had two arms and two legs.
“By the fifth day I discovered I was the happiest I had ever been in my life.”
And furthermore, Geneen went on to talk about being ‘greatfull’ even if it took losing everything to find this new deep happiness.
When I listen to hubby with his golfing buddies I rarely hear what is right about their game. They spend so many words grumbling about what’s wrong. I’ve often wondered why they continue to play.
When wives get together, we often share what bothers us. I wonder how our life will transpire if we switch our niggling tales to happier regales.
When I recently checked my credit reports I saw that someone used my name and a mailbox address in another state to open a Citicorp credit card. Fortunately, they paid their bills on time. If I had been alerted to this fraud even three months ago, I would have been rattled to the core just thinking about ID theft.
Instead, I focused on what was right. 1. My credit was fine. 2. I found out so I could do something about it.
After I had filled out the appropriate claims online, I went to the local sheriff’s department and filed a fraud report. It only took fifteen minutes. Within two weeks all three credit reporting agencies deleted the address and the Citicorp card from my credit report.
The Holy Spirit whispered: “nothing, no-thing is worth giving up the peace in my heart.”
Not once, not even one second, did I feel irritated or upset, I firmly believe that by remaining calm and focused on what was right helped the problem get solved easily.
Living in a state of gratitude, counting my blessings morning, night and throughout the day I feel free.
Sweet Pauline Ott told me yesterday that she received a message that morning:
“What would you do or how would you feel, if when you woke up this morning and all that you had was what you gave thanks for yesterday?”
How do you create happiness? How do you generate freedom in your life? It is a choice, and only you can make it.
